Ditching the platforming/puzzle styles of previous titles, this
outing for the series' characters is a multiplayer battle game called
Saru Batouru (a pun on Saru Battle = "Monkey Battle," or as we've coined
it in English, "Ape Escape Battle"). Saru Battle consists of a number
of battle games designed for play by up to four players simultaneously.
Over fifty games are included, spanning a huge range, including racing,
platform and arena-style games. For some games, the screen splits in
four allowing each player to have his own view. Other games place all
players on the same screen. Piposaru, the monkey that you always see
associated with Ape Escape also, for the first time in an Ape Escape
game, appears as a playable character. It's even possible to select the
"Ape Team," which consists of a group of Piposaru characters working
together.
£24.99, PS3 ★★
This began life as a Super Mario 64-battling platformer back on the
PS1 and was the first game to make use of the then-groundbreaking
DualShock controller’s twin analogue sticks.
Version 3 for the PS3 pretty much apes every lightgun game that’s
gone before it, being an on-rails blaster that swaps shotguns for
slingshots and nets. As the title suggests, a whole gang of
anthropomorphised monkeys have escaped and it’s your job to round them
up, using the Move controller to bring them under control. This is
obviously aimed at kids and seasoned gamers will blast through it in a
sitting or two.
Not that there isn’t fun to be had here. Wrangle the apes into the
onscreen net can be good fun, and when a whole gang of the cheeky
fellows simultaneously dive towards the screen, it’s genuinely exciting.
However, considering how the original Ape Escape was a great
demonstration of the potential of the DualShock, here it feels as though
Sony’s developers have nothing new to bring to the table.
Although a single player game for the most part, there’s a handful of
multiplayer mini-games to play through with pals. However, few of them
are worth more than 10 minutes of your time, and none benefit from
repeated playing.
The cartoony visuals of all game modes have a cutesy charm to them,
and the apes are brought to life with delightfully humorous movements,
but it’s far from a graphical showcase for Sony’s console.
In fact, Ape Escape 3 feels more like an escaped budget download title than a full retail release.
Another Century's Episode 3: The Final (アナザーセンチュリーズエピソード 3 THE
FINAL Anazā Senchurīzu Episōdo Surī The Final?), abbreviated as A.C.E.3,
is a mecha action video game produced by Banpresto and developed by
From Software. It is the sequel to the popular 2006 game Another
Century's Episode 2, and the third game in the Another Century's Episode
series. It was released for the PlayStation 2 on September 6, 2007.
Although it has a "The Final" subtitle, it is not the final game
entry of A.C.E. series, as after the announcement of Another Century's
Episode R in PlayStation 3 platform in April 2010. "The Final" possibly
means conclusion of A.C.E.1 to A.C.E.3's stories which connects each
others.
